Embracing Modern Etiquette: Connection, Confidence, and Respect

Let’s be honest—life moves fast. Between buzzing phones, back-to-back Zoom calls, and the constant pull of social media, it’s easy to lose sight of the little things that truly connect us. But here’s what I’ve learned: modern etiquette isn’t about stiff rules or outdated traditions. It’s about people. It’s about building confidence, fostering kindness, and showing respect—not just to others, but to ourselves.

As the Director of the New England School of Protocol and a certified etiquette coach in Massachusetts, my journey into this field wasn’t just about teaching table manners (though those are important too!). It was about helping people feel at ease, make meaningful connections, and carry themselves with grace in any situation.

Why Etiquette Still Matters (More Than Ever)

I get it—when people hear the word “etiquette,” they often picture fancy tea parties or rigid, old-school rules. But in reality, modern etiquette is simply about showing up in the world with confidence and consideration. Whether it’s crafting a thoughtful email, offering a genuine handshake, or knowing when to put your phone away at dinner, these small gestures create lasting impressions and open doors we never even knew existed.

And in a time when so many interactions happen behind screens, social skills are more crucial than ever. A well-placed “thank you,” the ability to listen without interrupting, or even the confidence to introduce yourself in a room full of strangers—these moments shape our personal and professional lives in powerful ways.

Bringing Back the Art of Connection

I’ll never forget the moment that sparked my passion for teaching etiquette. I was sitting in a coffee shop, watching a group of teenagers at a table together. Except they weren’t actually together at all. Each one was glued to their phone, barely acknowledging each other. It hit me: we’re losing something precious. The ability to engage in real, meaningful conversations. The confidence to hold eye contact. The simple joy of being present.

That realization pushed me to take action. I became certified to teach etiquette not just for the sake of “good manners,” but to help people—children, teens, adults—rediscover the power of human connection. The workshops I offer aren’t about perfection; they’re about awareness, empathy, and learning how to navigate social situations with ease and authenticity.

Moving Forward with Grace

Through the New England School of Protocol, my mission is simple: to help people feel more confident, more respected, and more connected. Because at the end of the day, etiquette isn’t about rules—it’s about relationships. It’s about making people feel valued, seen, and heard.

So let’s put down our phones (just for a little while), look each other in the eye, and bring back the warmth of genuine human connection. One conversation, one handshake, one thoughtful interaction at a time.
